- Ardbeg TEN - 87
I didn't like this one in the beginning -but now I really love it. It's maybe not the most potent malt from Islay at first -but it's
- in fine balance.
Not a bad choice as an introduction to the finest -the Islays!
Ardbeg, 1974 - 87
A smooth Islay, really nice but a weak finish. A hint of iodine.
Ardbeg, 1990/48° (Gordon & MacPhail) - 89
The nose is musky, varm lavender or raisins and the body is
- potent, but surprisingly smooth,
salty sweet and oaky. It is an excellent malt !
Ardbeg, 1978/40° (Connoisseurs Choice) - 88
Nose: Oaky sweet (vanilla?) The body is medium to full, nuts, salt, sweet and oaky. Another fine malt from Ardbeg.
Ardbeg, "Burntaraig" 12/46° - 74
Disappointment – nothing less! I have great expectations to
- Islays and I had great expectations to this Malt!
But it was a let down – dare I use the word Speyside?! The nose was promising but that’s it – nothing else! It’s not
- strong or boozy but heavily perfumed as a bunch of
schoolgirls
- tarted up for Saturday night at the disco!
There was a wee hint of almond in the class after a while, but
- no peat, smoke, seagull droppings not even old
knickers!
